Alva William (Bill) Shawver, Jr., 88, of Lewisburg WV, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Greenbrier Manor Nursing Home in Fairlea, WV following a short illness. He was born July 9, 1927 in Ronceverte, WV, the oldest son of Alva W. Sr. and Hazel Grace (Rider) Shawver. The oldest of 5 children, he spent his early life in Corliss, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Alberta Lea (Holliday) Shawver; a son, David Wayne Shawver; his second wife, Lila Lee ("Shorty") Wilkerson Shawver; and a brother,Richard Shawver. He is survived by a daughter, Rebecca S Black and her husband Charles of Maxwelton, WV; a son, Jeffery A Shawver and his wife Patricia of Staunton, VA; a stepson, Jeffrey Calhoun of Staunton, VA; a stepdaughter, Rhonda King and her husband James ("Pete") of Swoope, VA; a sister, Sammye Lewis of Alderson, WV; a sister, Nancy Shawver of Lewisburg, WV; and a brother, Keith Shawver of Ashville, NC. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Grandchildren; Derek Black and wife Jill of Warrenton, VA; Alicia (Black) Nalls and husband Lynn of Front Royal, VA; Kristin (Shawver)Forsyth and husband, Jason of Verona, VA; Drew Shawver and wife, Katie of Seattle, WA; Joel Shawver of Staunton, VA; Hannah Shawver of Lynchburg, VA; Jason Calhoun and wife Melody of Harrisonburg, VA; Josh King of Swoope, VA; Great-grandchildren; Emmalise and Natalie Black; Lance and Sydney Nalls; Byron, Ashtyn, Harper, Evelyn, Rowan and Lincoln Forsyth; Jackson, Lacy and Lincoln Calhoun. Bill is also survived by his special friend and companion, Janice Blankenship of Lewisburg, WV. He was an insurance agent for many years, working for Prudential, Metropolitan Life, and AFLAC. He found his true life's work late in life, working with antiques. For many years, he operated shops in the Staunton, VA area, and was fondly known as "the cookie jar man". More recently he operated a flea market booth selling antiques and pottery at the Lewisburg Fairgrounds. Memorial Service and Burial will be held in Staunton, Va in the very near future.
