Alan Wayne Bowes

January 25, 1954 — November 11, 2020

Alan Wayne Bowes, 66 of Lewisburg, WV passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2020 at his home. Born January 25, 1954 at White Sulphur Springs, WV, he was the son of the late James Clarkson and Sarah Elizabeth Huffman Bowes. Alan was retired from a 42 year career as a Water Plant Operator for the City of Lewisburg Public Works Department. Before online gaming came to be a thing, Alan had a wide variety of interests that included bicycling, documentaries, and reading. He loved sci-fi, westerns, and history. When Alan’s children were young, he was a beloved figure for his nieces, nephews, and many of the neighborhood children. He was a kind and gentle man that loved to play with and teach children and was a champion of lifelong learning. He was a dedicated trekker and his devotion to science and progress was passed down to his children. In his later years he had taken up video games, a hobby he enjoyed sharing with his grandchildren. Tinkering with anything around the house that was broken and might be fixable continued to be a passion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by four siblings, Anna Bratton, William “Bill” Bowes, Dwight “Ike” Bowes, and Nina Bowes. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Wilma Quick Bowes, and his children, Allyson Renee Bowes (Garth Ghearing), Keith Alan Bowes, and Kevin James Bowes (Ginny Schlitt). He was also survived by two siblings, Joseph Huffman (Mary Lou), and Dolores Sanford (Rick) and four grandchildren, Andrew Bowes, Zefram, Kepler and Anora Ghearing. As per Alan’s wishes he will be cremated and have no service. Online guestbook can be signed at www.morganfh.net. Arrangements by Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
