Annie Lee Shafer

April 12, 1934 — April 25, 2018

MANASSAS, VA - Annie Lee Shafer, age 84 of Manassas Park, VA was welcomed in to the arms of her Savior on April 25, 2018 at her home in Manassas Park. Annie was born to the late Joseph Hepler, Sr and Frances Bostic Hepler on April 12, 1934 in Greenbrier County, WV. Annie or “Memaw” as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren was a homemaker. She loved taking care of people in general but mostly the children. There were many children who were fortunate enough to experience her loving and patient care over the years. Annie was a member of Hatchers Memorial Baptist Church in Bristow, VA. She taught Sunday school, helped with Vacation Bible School and was the Church Clerk for over 25 years. One of her ministries was the Sunshine Committee where she sent birthday, anniversary, get well and sympathy cards to her church family. She never missed a birthday or special occasion and many friends have commented on how much they appreciated getting those cards over the years. Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Joseph Shafer who went to be with the Lord in October 1998. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Joseph “Junebug” Hepler, Jr and Henry Lee Hepler. Survivors include her four children, Cathy Peterson and her husband Ben of Nokesville, VA, Sam and his wife Teri also of Nokesville, VA, JoAnne Adams and her husband Doug of Manassas Park, VA and Tom and his wife Nita of Bentonville, VA; 9 Grandchildren, Brandon Peterson of Springfield, VA, Sean Peterson and his wife Britni of Shakopee, MN, Patrick Shafer of Owego, NY, LeAnne Shafer of Nokesville, VA and her Fiancé’ Steve Olney of Manassas Park, Joey Adams of Greenville, NC, Kelsey Adams of Manassas, VA, Samantha Shafer of Manassas Park, VA, Andrew Shafer of Manassas Park, VA, Matthew Shafer of Bentonville, VA; Five great-grandchildren Jazmine, Chloe, Dace and Dalis all of Shakopee, MN and Lexi of Manassas Park, VA; Sisters-in-law Betty Hepler of Nokesville, VA, Sue Shafer of Ronceverte, WV and Brother-in-law Charles Holley of White Sulphur Springs, WV; many special nieces and nephew as well. Annie loved the Lord, her family, her “Hatchers” family and looked forward to the monthly Senior Luncheon at Great American. She was also an avid Washington Nationals fan and very rarely missed a televised game. She left a lasting legacy in her children and grandchildren whom she loved dearly. We will miss her presences on this earth but know that she is now rejoicing in heaven with her loved ones who went home before her. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Baker Post Funeral Home. There will be an additional visitation on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Zion’s Light Baptist Church, Ronceverte, WV from 1:00 – 2:00 pm followed by the funeral services with Rev. Mark Shafer officiating. Burial will follow at McLean Cemetery, Ronceverte, WV. Online guestbook can be signed, or condolences can be sent to the family at www.morganfh.net.
