Calvin Cecil Lemons

Calvin Cecil Lemons, 88, of Asbury, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Greenbrier Manor in Fairlea, following a short illness. Born April 4, 1925, at Asbury, he was the son of the late Cecil Grover Lemons and Mary Cleo Anderson Lemons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Mary Ruth Lemons. Mr. Lemons was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Army. He retired in 1983 from the Federal Reformatory for Women at Alderson, where he worked as a Paint Supervisor. He was a member of West Point Baptist Church in Asbury, where he served as trustee. He was also a member of the Asbury Service Club. He enjoyed hunting, playing and listening to bluegrass and southern gospel music, and spending time with his grandsons. He also enjoyed the company of his canine companion, Katie. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Delphia Virginia Bennett Lemons; a son, Edward Lee Lemons and his wife, Karen, of Asbury; a daughter, Sharon Lemons Moody and her husband, Bobby, of Lewisburg; four grandchildren: Lloyd C. "Bo" Franks and his wife, Cyndi, of Ronceverte; James Matthew "Matt" Lemons of Morgantown, WV; Mark Edward Lemons of Morgantown, WV; and Derrick Cecil Davis of Lewisburg. He is also survived by a brother, Harry E. Lemons and his wife Mary, at The Brier in Ronceverte; sisters-in-law, Betty Bennett of Alderson, Doris O'Neil of Zephyrhills, Florida, and Carol Carter of Ronceverte; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Wanda Bennett of Louisa, Virginia; and a number of cousins. Services will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Rev. Ron Miller and Pastor Emory Hanna officiating. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 15, and one hour prior to services on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery at Clintonville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Asbury Community Center, c/o Mary Jane Harvey, 10192 Alta Drive, Asbury, WV 24916.
