Darlis Darlene Furry Carver passed away on April 19, 2026, at CAMC General Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia, at the age of 80. Born on August 2, 1945, in Washington, DC, Darlis lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and a warm spirit that touched the lives of many.
Darlis was well known in her community as a longtime server at Shoney’s, where her hardworking nature and easygoing demeanor left a lasting impression on colleagues and patrons alike. Her commitment to her work was paralleled by her loving and gentle character, especially evident in her kindness toward animals and her close bonds with family.
Throughout her life, Darlis had numerous interests that enriched her personal years. She had a strong affection for the beach, where she found peace and joy, and she developed a unique passion for collecting lighthouses. In her younger years, Darlis expressed her creativity through artwork, demonstrating a talent and appreciation for the arts. Beyond her personal pursuits, she was a devoted mother who gladly chaperoned many of her sons' school trips, always present to support their education and experiences.
Darlis is survived by her cherished sons, Mark Carver (Margaret), Matt Carver (Christy), and Michael Carver (Elizabeth). She took great pride in her grandchildren: grandsons Caden Carver, Mason Carver, and Isaiah Workman, as well as granddaughters Gabby Carver, Madeline Carver, and Rylee Carver. Her surviving siblings include sisters Dyanna Furry, Shelby Pyle, Bertha Pritt (Ricky), and Norma Lomasey, along with her brother Jimmy Alyce. The family was further enriched by her sister-in-law Caroline Carver and brothers-in-law Doug Carver and Kenneth Rucker, as well as several nieces and nephews who remember her fondly.
Darlis was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie and Donnalee Furry and John "Buster" and Marie Burns. She was also preceded by her beloved husband, Merl Carver; sisters Brenda Phillips, Katherine Richmond (Jerry), and Evelyn Rucker; and brothers Johnnie Furry and Billy Alyce.
A woman of gentle strength, Darlis leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love. Her memory will continue to live on through her family and all who had the privilege to know her.
It was Darlis' wish to be cremated. The family will hold a private graveside service later at Rosewood Cemetey. Online guestbook can be signed at www.morganfh.net. Arrangements entrusted to Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
