Dolin Lanvel Kirby

Dolin Lanvel Kirby, 94, died on December 16, 2013. He was born September 13, 1919 on Kirby Mountain near Alderson, WV. Parents were the late Clyde E. and Bessie Canterbury Kirby. On July 27, 1940, he married E. Faye Knapp and they celebrated their 71 year anniversary before Faye died in December 2011. Dolin and Faye lived over 40 years in Rainelle, WV where he worked at Meadow River Lumber Company and Georgia Pacific. In 1983 they retired and moved back to Alderson, WV. His favorite hobby was listening to the fox hounds chase the foxes. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and brother, Carmel Kirby, Alderson. Also six brothers- in-law, James, Ervin, Clarence and Calvin Knapp, Orice Thompson and Jim Allen. Six sisters-in-law Flossie, Helen, Elizabeth and Edith Knapp and Gladys Thompson and Grace Allen. He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Ron Melton, Alderson. Grandchildren Anthony and Jennifer Bowden, Alderson and Amanda and Shane Wheeler, Hinton. Great grandson Remington Bowden, Alderson. Sister, Frances Canterbury Smith, Greenfield, IN and Sister-in-law Bonnie Kirby, Alderson. Four step granddaughters and eleven step grandchildren. Special nieces and nephews, family and friends. Dolin was a member of Old Greenbrier Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and on several committees. Services will be December 19, 2013 at 2:00p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, Dr. William Bryan and Rev. Clay O'Dell will be officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Greenbrier Memorial Gardens, Lewisburg, wv. Pallbearers will be Arnold Knapp, Tim Knapp, Gary Bragg, Jim Bowden, Joseph Bryan and Charlie Coleman. The family wants to thank the staff at Greenbrier Manor for their excellent care they provided to Dolin in his last days.
