Cornstalk

Dervie “Keith” Workman of Cornstalk, West Virginia, born in 1969, passed away suddenly on February 26, 2026 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. Keith was the son of the late Dervie Theodore Workman of Asbury, West Virginia. His mother is Zula Anna Newell Dooley of Cornstalk, West Virginia. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Lee Gunn, Jr., and his nephew, Thomas Glenn “Tommy Boy” Chaparro Oswald. Those left to cherish his memory include his mother; his brother, William Lynn Oswald (Samantha) of Morehead, Kentucky; and multiple nieces and nephews.Throughout Keith’s life, he resided in Kentucky, Georgia, and a few other states before eventually returning home to West Virginia. Along the way, he tried different kinds of work and even dabbled in chicken and rabbit farming for a time. He lived simply and often without many resources, but he remained devoted to the people he loved most. He shared a home with Bobby and their mother, and together, they took care of one another in their own way. He enjoyed watching movies, sharing stories, and reminiscing about moments from his life.Keith also believed in marking life’s moments. It was important to him that his family would celebrate holidays with festive foods. Throughout the years, several people quietly helped care for Keith and his family and remained part of his life. He was especially grateful for their compassion and generosity which made it possible for small celebrations and everyday needs to be met.Keith could be easily misunderstood at first glance, yet those who took the time to look beyond the surface often discovered an intelligent and thoughtful man.His life reminds us that every person carries a story deeper than what the eye first sees.
