Edith M. Reed Freeman Powell

Edith M. Reed Freeman Powell, 89, of Renick passed away Friday July 20, 2012 at the UVA Hospital in Charlottesville. Born April 18, 1923 at Renick she was the daughter of the late Lee H. and Nannie Hanna Reed. Edith worked as a certified CNA at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Ronceverte for over 30 years and attended the Band of Hope Church at Renick for many years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband Harry T. Freeman in 1945 in World War II; her second husband, Fred D. Powell in 1997; brother, Delbert Reed; granddaughter, Beverly S. Ellis; nephew, Danny L. Blake; and niece, Nannie D. Armbrester. Edith is survived by her daughter, Brenda Ellis and husband, Harrison of Renick; grandson, Benjamin L. Ellis and wife, Tabatha; great grandsons, Benjamin Bryar and Zachary Lee Ellis; sister, Salena Blake; and brother, Dale Reed and wife, Eleanor. Graveside services and burial will be 2:00 pm Sunday July 23 at the Ellis Chapel Cemetery on Brushy Flat near Renick with Pastor Reginald Berry officiating.
