Esther Evelyn Hammons

Esther Evelyn Hammons, 86, of Renick passed away Tuesday April 10, 2012 at the Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea after a long illness. Born May 13, 1925 at Auto, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Ada Coldiron Harford Jameson. Esther was a member of the Lewisburg Chapter of the Eastern Star and the Lewisburg Lioness Club. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husband, Melvin W. Hammons; step-father, Glen Jameson; two children, Melvin and Ruth; brother, Oliver Harford; two sisters, Elsie Byers and Lucille Workman; and one grandson, Steven Burdette. Survivors include three sons, Lester Hammons and wife, Mary Nancy of Frankford, Mason Hammons and wife, Rosemary of Clendenin, and John Hammons of Renick; three daughters, Trudy Hammons of Renick, Nancy Moore and husband, Robert of Elkview, and Mary Carpenter and husband, Skeeter of Alderson; thirteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; and seventeen great-great grandchildren; one sister, Virginia Tharp of Caldwell; and brother, Cleo Harford of Clarksburg, IN. Service will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Woodland Community Chuch at Auto with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery Friends may call from 6-9 PM Saturday at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
