James Lee "Jimmy" Dillon, a devoted family man and dedicated railroad professional, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia. Born on January 11, 1935, in Talcott, West Virginia, James lived a life marked by commitment, warmth, and a deep love of both family and community.
A proud graduate of Talcott High School, James embarked on a remarkable career with the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, later CSX, dedicating 42 years as a Conductor and Brakeman. His tenure on the rails was distinguished by hard work and a profound knowledge of the industry, earning respect from colleagues and friends alike. Jimmy was known not only for his professionalism but also for his captivating stories of times past—stories that carried the rich history of a bygone era and were eagerly shared wherever he went.
Jimmy's personality was marked by an open heart and a generous spirit; he never met a stranger and loved to engage in conversation, delighting in meeting new people and staying connected with lifelong friends. Family was central to his life, and he was known for never missing a family reunion, where he loved to catch up on the latest family news and gossip, always with a smile and an attentive ear.
His interests extended beyond the rails. From his youth, Jimmy's cultivated a fascination with airplanes, even taking flying lessons as a teenager. His passion for travel enriched his life, allowing him to explore the world and create lasting memories.
James is survived by his son, Roger Dillon, and his wife Helen, his granddaughter Chelsea, and great-granddaughter Audrey. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ocie Dillon; his cherished wife of sixty years, Dorothy Jean Lilly Dillon; his son, Gary Lee Dillon; and brothers, Oscar Boone and George Lewis Dillon.
Visitation will be held on April 22, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home, 252 Montvue Drive, Lewisburg, West Virginia 24901. A funeral service to honor James’s life will follow immediately at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery, Hillsdale, WV
