James A. Hudkins

James Andrew Hudkins, age 90, of Rich Creek, Virginia, and formerly of Fairlea, West Virginia, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Jim was a devoted member of Lewisburg United Methodist Church and had previously served as a lay leader at Rainelle United Methodist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, providing support to the Chaplain.

Throughout his life, Jim was blessed with many opportunities. He graduated from Crichton High School, Beckley College, and Morris Harvey College, earning a degree in business. He shared his knowledge by teaching typing at Crichton High School and EMT classes. Jim was actively involved in the volunteer fire department and ambulance service for many years.

His professional career included roles as comptroller at Meadow River Lumber Company and as a bank teller at Western Greenbrier National Bank in his earlier years. He also worked at the State Fair of West Virginia before retiring from the Greenbrier County Assessor’s Office. Additionally, Jim was known for his dedicated work at funeral homes throughout Greenbrier County.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Gaylord and Garnett Hudkins; his sister, Virginia Amick; and his brother, John Hudkins. He is lovingly remembered by his daughter Kelly, with whom he resided; his sisters Mabel Hall of Chester, Virginia, and Rosemary Goldsberry of Gray, Georgia; six grandchildren—Michaela Murphy (Brennan) of Princeton, West Virginia, Jevin Scott, Chandler Scott (Maggie) of Alexandria, Virginia, Alex Bennett, and Ike and Sherry Naylor of Rich Creek, Virginia; and two great-grandchildren, Cooper and Milo Murphy.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, June 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kelly’s home, located at 205 Giles Avenue, Rich Creek, Virginia. A funeral service to honor James’s life will be held on Friday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 300 Giles Avenue, Rich Creek, Virginia, directly across from Kelly’s residence with Pastors Jim Wentz and Dan Thyng officiating. Jim will be remembered for his warm spirit, his willingness to connect with others, and his dedication to his community and family. His legacy is one of service, kindness, and love.
