Joseph E. Sizemore

LEWISBURG, WV - Joseph “Joe” Ezekiel Sizemore, 49, passed away in his home in Caldwell, WV, on December 19th, 2023. Born March 26, 1974, to Jackson and Camilla Sizemore, Joe grew up on a farm in Lewisburg, WV. He was in the Boy Scouts and played several sports. He graduated from Greenbrier East High School (Lewisburg, WV) in 1992 where he was the drum major for the Spartan Marching Band for three years, conducting Spytacular, East on Broadway, and The Lord of the Rings. An avid music lover, he played saxophone and bass guitar, and had a rich, deep bass voice. Joe had two children, Jamison (1995) and Jacquelyn (1997), whom he loved “more than words can describe.” During this time, he owned a groundskeeping business, “True Lawn Care,” based in Alderson, WV. In April 2006, Joe enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served in the Iraq War until February 2008. As a Fire Support Specialist, Rank E04, he earned several honors and accolades, including the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Iraq Campaign Medal with a Campaign Star. He also received the honor of a phone call from former president George W. Bush in 2008, in which the president thanked Joe for his sacrifice over the holiday season and passed along Christmas tidings for Joe and his troop. He was honorably discharged in July 2009. Joe later worked in general maintenance at Carnegie Hall, then as a manufacturing technician at Ecer Technologies. Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Holley, and his loyal canine companion of many years, Lefty. He is survived by his parents and children. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous grieving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. His family hopes everyone will remember the “man with the golden mullet” as the fun-loving, mischievous, tender-hearted, handsomely blue-eyed man that he was. Memorial service will be at 7:00 PM, Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Wednesday at the funeral home.
