Ellen Lenore Cales, 79, of White Sulphur Springs, WV, passed away on December 10, 2017 at Roanoke Carillion Hospital in Roanoke, VA, after a short illness. Lenore, as she preferred to be called, was born on January 8, 1938, to Luther McMillion and Carrie McMillion. Lenore was a devoted wife to Jay Ronald Cales, Sr, for 58 years prior to his death in 2016. She was a devoted mother and homemaker while raising three children. At the age of 42, and her two youngest children were in college, she attended the Bluefield State College Extension in Lewisburg working on an Associate’s Degree in Business. She later became a Medical Transcriptionist for the Greenbrier Valley Hospital for several years. She retired at the age of 73. She was very proficient at her job and she enjoyed working. Lenore served as a Brownie and Girl Scout Leader for both of her daughters. She also worked as a Cub Scout Den Mother for her son. She was a talented seamstress who made most of her daughters clothing through school. She even designed clothing from the use of a multitude of patterns. After 2016, she joined a Widow’s Group that met monthly in Ronceverte, WV. She also was a member of the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs, WV. Lenore loved reading, landscaping with flowers, Cocker Spaniels and cats. She dearly loved her two miniature Cocker Spaniels, Molly and Penny. She spent every spring and summer planting and mulching her beautiful flowers. Many summers were spent at Sherwood Lake camping with family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen McMillion McCoy. Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Nancy Lynn Tuckwiller (Kevin) Lewisburg, WV, and Cathy Denise Blaylock (Billy) of Princeton, WV, one son, Jay Ronald Cales, Jr (Gina) of Hurricane, WV; grandchildren: Matthew Flood, Luke and Sam Cales, Billy Blaylock, Jr, Phillip Tuckwiller, Mark Tuckwiller, Amber Tuckwiller, Jessica Tuckwiller; great-grandchildren, Jack Blaylock, Sophia Tuckwiller, and Hamilton Van Buren; one sister Nina Hurd (Gregory); one brother Tony McMillion; and a very special family friend, Brent Boggs.Visitation will be from 11:30 AM – 1 PM on Saturday, December 16th at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church in White Sulphur Springs. Services will at 1 PM with Pastor Shari Dawn Stilgenbauer officiating.
