CALDWELL, WV – Lila Dolphelen (Wacaster) Shafer, 80 passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 16, 2022, following a long illness. Born August 17, 1941, at Early Branch, SC she was the daughter of the late Rev. Adolphus J. Wacaster and Helen V. (Cummings) Wacaster. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Julia Ilene (Rittmayer), Jordan Michael, George Edward, and Arthur Joel Wacaster. Lila was a member of the Zions Light Baptist Church where she was a member of the Ladies Circle. She volunteered at GVMC in the gift shop and at the front desk for many years, as she loved helping people. Lila had a passion for the Samaritans Purse Christmas Shoebox ministry. She always wanted to make one more! This past Christmas she personally provided 108 shoeboxes.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Bill Shafer, daughter, Dianne Miele (Robert), grandsons, Justin and Tristen Miele, many nephews, nieces and sister-in-law, Jean Jones Wacaster. She is also survived by Bill’s children, Brian Shafer (Yvonne) and Russ Shafer (Beth) and his grandchildren, Brian Jr., Abbie, Rylee, and Reagan
Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the Zions Light Baptist Church with Pastor Gary Baker officiating and special music by Rev. Greg Scott. Burial will follow in the McLean Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until time of the service, Saturday at the Church. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephanie Holliday for her kind compassionate care as well as the staff at GVMC for their kindness to the family.
