Loyd Gene Bennett

Loyd Gene Bennett, 73, of Lewisburg passed away December 17, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Durham, NC. Born Jan. 24, 1938 at Carroll Hill, Gene was the son of the late Roscoe and Gertrude Scott Bennett. He retired after years of service from the Department of Human Services and was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1961 to 1967. Other than his parents Gene was preceded in death by his son, Loyd Gene Bennett Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Spinks, Edna Bennett, Annabell Irene Ridgeway; and brothers, Brooks, Curtis, Wilton, and Coleman Bennett. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Rosa "Rosie" Workman Bennett; his children, sons, Roscoe B. and wife, Shelia and Gary Lee all of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Daniel Bennett, Joshua Bennett, Andrew Bennett, Sara Michelle Bennett, and Kayla Bennett; great grandchildren, Mary Joy Bennett, Joshua Logan Bennett, and Braiden Andrew McCallister; and a very special neighbor, and friend that was like family and was always there for us, Marguerite Scott. Funeral Services will be held at 1:30 PM Thursday Dec. 22 at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon cemetery at Frankford. Friends may call from 12:00 PM to time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
