Margaret Adkins

Margaret "Margie" Adkins, born on March 30, 1934, in the serene town of Summersville, WV, passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 18, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and devotion, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Margie was the beloved daughter of Winfield and Chloe Smith and was one of fourteen siblings, and 9 half brothers and sisters. Predeceased her: Willie, Elmer, Velma, Virgil, Joseph, Della, Bubbie, Buster, Robert, Winfield, Laura, and Ira. She was preceded in death by her husband, Silas Homer Adkins, with whom she shared a sacred marriage, beginning on November 14, 1950, in Clay County, WV.

Margie is survived by her loving children, Joyce Bragg, David (Cindy) Adkins, Donald (Lisa) Adkins, and Connie (Steve) McCutchen, all residing in Charles City, VA. Her family was the light of her life, and she was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren, one brother, Eddie Ray (Ted), of Lewisburg, WV., each of whom held a special place in her heart.

Margie's long career in retail was marked by her dedication and warm spirit, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and customers alike. Beyond her professional life, Margie was an avid reader who found joy and solace in the pages of her favorite books. She was also a talented quilter, renowned for her unique "crazy quilts," which she crafted with love and creativity. Her quilting group was a cherished community where she shared her passion and laughter with dear friends.Family gatherings were a highlight for Margie, where her love and warmth were ever-present. Her home was always filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of shared meals, embodying the close-knit family bonds she so highly valued.

A memorial service to celebrate Margie's remarkable life will be held on October 9, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. at the Varina Church of the Nazarene, located at 5350 Darbytown Road, Richmond, VA, 23231. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. preceding the service. In honor of Margie's joyful spirit and her love for family moments, guests are invited to join the family after the service in the Fellowship Hall for Margie's favorite meal, pizza.
