Mark Alan Butcher

Mark Alan Butcher (66) went to heaven to be with his parents, brother Butch, sister-in-law Patricia, several aunts and uncles, and friends on July 20, 2026.

Mark was born in Fairmont, WV on August 8, 1959. He married Bobbie Jo Deitz Butcher on February 20, 1998.

He has fought and survived many years of life-changing medical conditions including COPD, Respiratory issues, Pulmonary issues including heart valve replacement and being on oxygen 24/7. He was told over and over there was nothing they could do for his lungs or his heart but to live out his life.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Verlin Eugene Butcher (88 on October 19, 2022) and Roberta Lee Vincent Butcher (88 on June 14, 2022) that were married for 72 years. In addition to his parents, is preceded in death by his brother, Verlin “Butch” Butcher, Paternal grandparents Madge Marie Harris Butcher and Isaac Franklin Butcher. Maternal grandparents, Ruben Moran Vincent and Maxine Harrington Vincent, Great grandmother Anna Harrington, Sister-in-law Patricia Butcher of Crawley WV, a great nephew Grayson Butcher of Morgantown, three uncles, Bernard Butcher of Gallipolis Ohio, Robert Butcher, and Beverly Butcher and one aunt Beatrice Kisner all of Fairmont WV. He is also proceeded in death by longtime friends, Don Lewis, Sandy Lewis and Don Gunter.

Since Mark was a son of a minister and wife, he was blessed to travel to many counties so his father could serve churches in Marion, Preston, Randolph, Nicholas, Greenbrier, Pocahontas, Summers, and Doddridge Counties.

Mark was an active member of FFA and 4-H clubs through-out the years. He participated in National 4-H Club Congress for Tractor Driving, Tractor Driving contests, and Square Dance competitions. He showed cows at the State Fair of WV. He supported his own children and encouraged others to be an active member of FFA and 4-H. Mark loved to spend time camping and participating in family reunions at Bull Town Lake. He also loved helping Williamsburg Flying Falcons 4-H Club with outings and dinners. Mark built a smoker for a whole hog and enjoyed people getting together to use it for anniversaries, reunions, Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department Dinners.

Mark has worked at Greenbrier Public Service District, truck operator for Burns Motor Freight and Walter J. Sheets Trucking, a self-employed truck driver, and Greenbrier County Schools Bus Driver for 7 years at “Squat & Dodge” in Quinwood, WV. After being put on oxygen and needing a heart valve replacement, Mark had to take disability and support his family by going with them as much as possible or making suggestions and advising them on following through projects. He supported Bobbie Jo by staying in a camper during the State Fair while she worked the horse show, listening to horse show planning meetings, and watching horses and exhibitors in the upper ring.

Mark is survived by his wife, Bobbie Jo and their son Trace Butcher and Hanna Brown of Clintonville and previous wife Violee “Sissy” Weatherholt and their two daughters Dakota Carden of Clintonville, WV and Doug Carden of Ronceverte, WV and Tara and Josh McFerrin of Clintonville, and; grandchildren Maxwell Butcher and Nora McFerrin, parents-in-law, Robert Deitz and wife Georgene of Lewisburg, WV, sister-in-law Cheryl, of Crawley and the Philippines, Kenneth Butcher of Clintonville, Richard Butcher and wife Barbara of Frankford, and his sister Rev. Dr. Joy Butcher-Winfree; brother-in-law Olen Winfree of Princeton; sister-in-law Regina Deitz of Lewisburg, brother-in-law Kevin Deitz and Angie Linton of Lewisburg, nieces and nephews, Matthew Butcher (Marilea) of Friars Hill, Daniel Boggs of, PA, Jason Butcher (Sharon) of Florida, Melissa Butcher and partner Ronnie Lazarine of White Sulphur Springs, Jessica Pyne and husband Brent of Lewisburg, Leah Wray and husband Mathew of Clarksburg, Bradley Butcher and wife Amanda of Frankford, Aaron Winfree and wife Callista of Morgantown, Three great-neices, Adrianna Butcher, Ella Pyne and Finley Wray ; and five great-nephews, Gavin, and Mason Pyne, Carson Wray, Camden and Eli Butcher, and Connor and Caden Winfree . He is also survived by many cousins.

The family would like to extend a heart-felt thank you to family, friends, and colleagues for their love, prayers, and support. A special thank you to the Alderson Rescue Squad, GVMC Emergency Department, White Sulphur Springs Rescue Squad, Raleigh General Hospital Emergency Department, Dr. Pamela Butcher, We Care Medical, American Home Patient, Greenbrier County Palliative Care, Lincare Medical, CAMC Memorial Hospital Staff, Mike Loudermilk, and Morgan Funeral Home.

Services include Visitation at Morgan Funeral Home, 252 Montvue Dr, Lewisburg, WV 24901, on Thursday, July 23, from 6-8 p.m. and Funeral Service on Friday, July 24, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Mike Loudermilk officiating.

Mark loved having family get-togethers and camping family reunions. So the family would like to invite you back to Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department following the service for a meal to share memories of Mark.
