Maxel Lacy Bowyer, known to many as Max, peacefully passed away at the age of 91 on May 29, 2026, at his home in Alderson, West Virginia. Born on July 2, 1934, in Sinks Grove, West Virginia, Max lived a life marked by dedication to his family, community, and his work, leaving an enduring legacy in the region he called home.

Max was the proud owner of Max Bowyer Drilling, a respected local well drilling business that served the community with integrity and skill. His hands-on expertise extended beyond his professional pursuits; he was passionate about small engine repair and had a cherished love for growing tomatoes and gardening. These interests not only reflected his practical nature but also his commitment to nurturing and cultivating growth, both in his work and personal life.

Everyone who knew Max loved him for his warmth, kindness, and the genuine care he showed to those around him. His personality brought light to countless lives, and his presence was a source of comfort and strength in his community.

Max is survived by his beloved companion of sixty-eight years, Florence Anne Brookman, whose partnership was a testament to enduring love and loyalty. He is also lovingly remembered by his son, Ray Bowyer, and his daughter, Beverly Matthews. Max’s family legacy continues through several grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Additionally, he is survived by several nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by his generous spirit.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Edna Bowyer, along with four brothers and two sisters. Though they went before him, their memories remain interwoven with the rich fabric of Max’s life story.

Maxel Lacy Bowyer’s life was a tribute to hard work, devotion, and love. His absence is deeply felt by all who were fortunate to know him, yet his spirit lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and the community that held him in such high regard. May he rest in peace, forever remembered with affection and respect.

It was Max's wish to be cremated with no services.  Online guestbook can be signed at www.morganfh.net. Arrangements entrusted to Morgan Funeral Home, Lewisburg, WV.
