Meredith Farrel Anderson, 92, of Fairlea passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea. Born June 16, 1920 on Coffman Hill he was the son of the late Vern and Nellie Anderson. Farrel was an Army Sergeant, during World War II, of Company E 393 Infantry Regiment with meritorious achievement in ground operations against the enemy. He served in the European Theater of Operations on or about 16 April 1945 and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He retired from Vecellio and Grogan of Beckley as a heavy equipment operator; and was a member of Greystone Baptist Church in Fairlea. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Quillie Howard Anderson; a son, Melvin Anderson; a sister, Illeta Deitz; and two brothers, Ira and Garnet Anderson. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Daniel Honaker Anderson; brother, Maynard Anderson; special nephew, Larry Anderson; four daughters, Linda Cooper and Ronnie, Sharon Milam and Eddie, Anita Snuffer and Thomas, and Sandra Wills and Joey; three sons, Freddie Honaker and Olivia, Kevin Honaker and Cindy, and Larry Honaker and Kristi; twenty grandchildren; thirty-two great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday August 4 at the Greystone Baptist Church in Fairlea with Pastor Youel Altizer and Rev. Thomas Snuffer officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Cemetery.
