Mervel C. Nelson

Mervel C. Nelson, 92, of Lewisburg passed away Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2012 at the Brier Nursing and Rehab in Ronceverte. Born July 10, 1920 at Esty he was the son of the late John and Georgia Murdock Nelson. Mervel worked as a machinist for fifteen years at Union Carbide and than went to Rockwell International until his retirement. He was a fifty year member of the South Charleston Lodge #168 Scottish Rite; a United States Navy Veteran, and attended the Band of Hope Baptist Church at Esty. Other than his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Blankenship Nelson and his second wife, Loney Blake Jones Nelson. Mervel is survived by a grandson, Mark Nelson ; granddaughters, Cindy Caudil and Yvonne Browning all of South Charleston; brothers Raymond Nelson of North Carolina and Orval Nelson of Ohio; sister Opal of Ohio; and special niece and nephew, Alston and Sallie Blankenship of Renick. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday November 25 at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
