LEWISBURG, WV – Michael Ward “Coach” Walker, 73, of Lewisburg, WV passed away, Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Springfield Center, Lindside, WV. Born January 8, 1945 at Mansfield, OH he was the son of the late Ward McGinnis Walker and Nancy Adeline Davis Bradley. Mike, known as “Coach” to many people in Monroe County was a former teacher and coach at Greenville Junior High School. Mike loved to travel and spent a lot of time at his vacation home on Lake Gaston. He was a member of the Ronceverte Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Stacy Michael Walker and his grandmother who raised him, Alzie Walker. Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty-one years, Shelby Raines Walker, daughters, Debra Neel of Greenville, WV and Deana Sharp of Powell Mountain Road, Rich Creek, VA, grandchildren, Heather Cole, Brookelyn Cole, Trevor Neel and Logan Sharp and great grandchildren, Chaz and Carson Long and Raylynn Lilly, half-sister, Beverly (Steve) Smith of Mississippi, niece, Lesley (Kevin) Groh and great nieces, Alexandra, Isabella and Olivia, several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Lindside Christian Church, Lindside, WV with Pastor Andy Howdock and Marvin Dixon officiating. Burial will follow in the Broyles Cemetery, Lindside, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for donations of sympathy be made in Mike’s memory to the Ronceverte Baptist Church – 437 W. Main Street, Ronceverte, WV 24970. Pallbearers will be Jim Gore, Junior Wickline, Jim “Jay Bird” Canterbury, Jim Thomas, Gavin Copeland and Jim Houchins. Jim Jackson and Linwell Booth will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
