Rev. Roy H. Gwinn

December 22, 2022 — April 17, 2015

Rev. Roy H. Gwinn, 92, of Clintonville, WV passed away April 17, 2015 at Peyton Hospice House, Lewisburg. He was one of fifteen children born to Goff and Flora Gwinn of Meadow Bridge. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years, Ruby Meredith Goins Gwinn and thirteen brothers and sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Christine Waugh and husband, Jay of Charleston, granddaughter, Angie Morgan and husband, Brett of Cross Lanes, granddaughter, Cheri Waugh of Carolina Shores, NC, great-grandchildren, Jenny Morgan and John Morgan of Columbus, OH, brother. Bobby Gwinn of Morgantown, and many nieces and nephews. Roy was a World War II veteran serving as an aerial engineer and crew chief in the Army Air Corps "Flying Tigers" under Gen. Claire Chennault in China, Burma, and India. He flew more than 100 aerial supply missions over the Himalayan Mountains, famously known as the Hump. He worked for 20+ years as a salesman with General Foods. Known by many as the "peanut man," he often roasted fresh peanuts in Kmart, Sears, GC Murphy and other stores. Upon retirement, Roy went into the ministry and received his ministerial degree from Duke Divinity School in 1979. He served many Methodist charges around the state of West Virginia over the past 40 years. Roy loved singing and playing his guitar to his congregations, nursing homes, hospitals, and anyone that would listen. He loved and enjoyed his family, friends, pets, playing golf, but most of all he enjoyed preaching the word of God. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to thank Dr. Jay Baker and the staff at Peyton Hospice House for the compassion and comfort during this very difficult time. A memorial service, led by Rev. Greg Scott, will be held Sunday, July 19, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Grace United Methodist Church 146 Fort Springs, Ronceverte, WV. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Peyton Hospice House 1265 Maplewood Ave. Lewisburg, WV 24901.Service:2:00 PM SundayJuly 19, 2015Grace United Methodist ChurchFt. Spring, WV
