Richard Dean Miller

Dec 16, 1966 — Aug 16, 2026

Lewisburg, WV

Richard Dean Miller of Naoma, WV, passed from Huntington’s disease on August 16, 2026.

He leaves behind 4 loving children, Lindsey Gabrielle, Caitlin Elizabeth, Ryan Samuel, and Zachary Ian Miller. His parents, Tom and Jane Miller, are deceased.

Born in Beckley, WV at Raleigh General on December 16, 1966, everyone knew he was intelligent from a young age. Preferring books over everything else, he spent most of his free time playing sports and reading. A baseball pitcher for Marsh Fork High School (Class of ‘85), he was a big Cincinnati Reds fan since childhood. In 1988, he married his best friend, April Jeanette Clay. A proud son of Marshall University, he graduated in ‘91 with a Bachelor’s in Business Administration. A Randy Moss fan till the end, he always cheered for Marshall and then, for the Raiders. After Marshall, he went on to get his MBA in International Business in ‘92 from George Washington University. After graduating, he went on to start a long government career as an analyst. He finally retired from the Department of Defense in 2023. When he was 30, he welcomed his first child, a daughter, in 1996. Then, in 2007, he welcomed triplets (2 sons and a daughter) at 41. At only 57, he was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, a fatal inherited brain disorder that causes nerve cells to break down over time. From his diagnosis to his death, he had 3 extra years with us. Now, he can be free from the pain and suffering of Huntington’s. There will be no funeral as the deceased requested. Instead, he will be donating his body to science, specifically the Harvard Brain Tissue Resource Center, to help with the advancement for treatments and to foster a better understanding of the disease.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Huntington’s Disease Society of America in his memory.

“It’s the End of the World as We Know It” (and now he feels fine.) R.E.M.
