Richard Harold Peek, a devoted member of his community and a respected figure in his professional and personal life, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026, at the Peyton Hospice House in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He was 81 years old.
Born on June 6, 1944, in Ronceverte, West Virginia, Richard lived a life rooted deeply in service and dedication. He began his career as a longtime employee of Ambler Building Contractors before retiring from Boxley, where he worked as a truck driver. His work ethic and commitment were hallmarks of his character, earning him respect among his colleagues and community alike.
Richard’s passion for community service was exemplified by his many years of involvement with the Ronceverte Volunteer Fire Department. He served notably as Chief, a role in which he was admired for his leadership and selfless dedication. Beyond his firefighting duties, Richard cherished the time he spent with his family, especially enjoying the company of his granddaughter, Sara Defibaugh, and his great-granddaughters, Annaleise and Adalynn. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in fishing and hunting, hobbies that connected him with the natural beauty of his West Virginia surroundings.
His faith played a central role in his life. Richard was a longtime member of the First Church of God in Ronceverte, where he contributed significantly by serving on the Trustee Board. This commitment reflected his deep belief in community and spiritual fellowship.
Richard is survived by his loving daughter, Christina Defibaugh, and her husband, Jason; his granddaughter, Sara Defibaugh; his great-granddaughters, Annaleise and Adalynn; and his sister, Joyce Bowers. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mildred and Frank Neuner; his beloved wife, Patricia Peek; and his brother, Steve Peek.
Richard Harold Peek’s legacy is one of steadfast dedication, heartfelt service, and love for family and community. He will be remembered with great respect and affection by all who knew him.
