Robert Beirn Mcdowell

Robert Beirn McDowell, age 90, of Clifton Forge, VA, died at his residence on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. Bob was born July 16, 1925 in Ronceverte, WV, the son of the late Burnette S. and Mary Lipps McDowell.He was retired from Coca Cola Consolidate of Roanoke, VA. He wasa member of the VFW Post in Covington, VA and was a WWII veteranof the US Navy where he was a signalman. Mr. McDowell was member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church and the Men's Bible Class. He loved his church and served as an elder and a deacon andwas in the church choir.He is survived by his wife Virginia Arbaugh McDowell of Clifton Forge, one son, Robert Lee and his wife Cecille of Covington and one daughter, Patricia Dressler and her husband Bill, also of Covington.Also surviving are 4 grandsons, Joe McDowell, Aaron McDowell andwife Meredith, Trey Dressler, wife Susan, and their daughters Anna and Emme of Birmingham, AL and Ethan Dressler of Roanoke. Mr.McDowell is also survived by two brothers, William "Bill" McDowell and wife, Anna of Ronceverte, and James McDowell and wife, Betty of Fairlea, WV, a number of nieces and nephews and several greatnieces and great-nephews. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Emma Susan, Alice, Ruth, and Peggy, and a, brother Richard.A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday May 13, 2016 at Zions Light Baptist Church in Ronceverte, WV with the Rev. Gary Baker officiating. Burial will follow in McLean Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg, WV or at the residence any time, 1011 Cliffwood Circle, Clifton Forge, VA.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, The Clifton Forge Fire Department, Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church or Southern Care Hospice Services, 5330 Peters Creek Road, NW, Suite D-1, Roanoke, VA 24019.
