Samuel Ray Mcferrin

Samuel "Sam" Austin McFerrin III passed away at home on Saturday, December 24th with his little Susie beagle at his side. He was born December 12th 1943 in Morehead City, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his father Samuel Austin McFerrin Jr., his mother Lena Arbaugh McFerrin and his loving wife Nancy Clutter McFerrin. Sam is survived by his granddaughters Devin McCraw and her husband Jared of Union. And by Ashley McFerrin and her partner Courtney Brown of Renick. He is also survived by his son James "Jim" McFerrin, his wife Emily and a grandson James Austin McFerrin, of Renick. Sam has one great grandson Preston Marshall McCraw, also of Union. Sam was a member of Spring Creek Presbyterian Church and an avid outdoorsman. Sam retired from the WV DOH after many years of service. Funeral service will be 12:00 Noon, Thursday, December 29, 2016 at the Spring Creek Presbyterian Church, Renick, WV, with Rev. Lynn Randolph officiating. Burial will follow in the McFerrin Family Cemetery, Friars Hole, WV. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from Home Care Plus for their efforts and care for Sam. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Sheila Rowe. Thank you for caring for Sam and Nancy. You were a blessing to dad after mom passed away.
