Vernon E. "Gene" Flanagan, 79, of Lewisburg passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Brier Nursing and Rehab Center in Ronceverte.Born on June 20, 1937 at Lewisburg he was the son of the late Vernon A. Flanagan and Pearl Spinks Flanagan. He was the former owner of Flanagans Barber Shop and retired with forty-five years of service. Gene was very well respected and treated all people equally. He was a 1956 graduate of Lewisburg High school. He was a member of Zions Light Baptist Church and loved his church family.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Schibel, and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Paul and Blanche Honaker Shafer.Gene is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Delores Shafer Flanagan; daughter, Tammy White and husband, Terry of Lewisburg; grandsons, Trent White (Sara) of Pickaway and Troy White of Caldwell; great granddaughter, Abigail Gracelynn White, who was so precious to him; brothers, Ralph Flanagan and wife of Glen Burnie, MD, and Andy Flanagan and wife, Marie of New Jersey; and brother-in-law, Eddie Shafer and wife, Joan.Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday October 8, 2016 at Zions Light Baptist Church at Ronceverte with Pastors Gary Baker and Mark Shafer officiating. Burial will follow in the McLean Cemetery.Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00PM Friday October 7, 2016 at Morgan Funeral Home in Lewisburg.
